The Boy Sockets the Clown Sockets

Sockets, The World’s Angriest Clown, Meets the Boy Who Would Not Smile was Sometimes Y’s baptismal production, launched upon an unwitting populace in late 1995. Created and geared towards the... how should we put it... sick and twisted demographic, Sockets was intended to be a comic counter point to all those sappy, happy clowns you see running amuck at circuses and birthday parties.

The 16mm color film runs three minutes. The character was created and animated by Derek Vowles on a Mac 7100 and shot off the screen with a Bolex camera. The original soundtrack and theme music (now lost to time) was created and composed by Greg Rutledge. First screened in early May, 1995.

The story: Well, the title pretty much sums it up!

There was a sequel made in 1996, called Bring Me the Head of Sockets the Clown! Quicktime video clips of that film are available online. Check it out!

S1 Frame: The Intro! S1 Frame: Bunny!
The Boy! Sockets must make him smile!
So, why not use the good ol rabid bunny?
S1 Frame: Acid! S1 Frame: Drama!

The bunny’s not a go - better use the acid!
Well, after acid, self mutilation is no biggie.
S1 Frame: Pathos! S1 Frame: Juggling!
Hammer Time!
Ouch.
For those times when you've completely lost your head.
