Unknown to the general populace, powerful magi have been vying for control over the known world. Bound in action and deed by an ancient pact, the mages have turned to subversive methods to advance their goals: they hire small bands of highly-skilled mercenaries to do their bidding. To the populace at large, these mysterious agents are known as Questors.

For hundreds of years, successive generations of Questors have thought of themselves simply as adventurers selling their services to the highest bidder.
