There
have been two
films starring Sockets the Clown, both animated by hand, colored
in Photoshop, assembled in Macromedia Director, and filmed frame by
frame off my trusty Macintosh monitor
using a Bolex 16mm camera. The
first is titled: Sockets,
the World's Angriest Clown, Meets the Boy Who Would Not Smile.
It debuted in 1995. Greg Rutledge composed the original musical
score. The 16mm film runs approximately three minutes.
The
second is titled Bring Me the Head of Sockets the Clown,
and serves as a sequel of sorts. It debuted in 1996, and brought
with it painted backgrounds and tracking shots. Greg Rutledge came
in for a repeat performance (just in the nick of time, too) on the
temporary musical score. In 1998, Doug Traeger appeared on the scene
and engineered the soundtrack, adding thousands of sound effects
and a final score. In 2001, I finally got my hands on DV technology,
and the final version of the film was created.
In
March of 2001, Loyola
Marymount bestowed its Arkoff
Award on Bring Me the Head of Sockets the Clown!
A pristine print (on DV, natch) was presented for screening
whenever LMU wants to terrorize potential students and their parental
units.
In
August of 2001, Bring Me the Head of Sockets the Clown
was a finalist in the Alice Radio Three Minute Film Festival. |
